Foster Care and Human Trafficking

60% of child sex trafficking victims have been within foster care, or another part of the larger child welfare system
Traffickers target youth in foster care because of their increased vulnerability due to a lack of family and emotional relationships and support.
Many sex trafficking victims are runaway girls who were sexually abused as children. 1 in 6 runaways reported missing were likely sex trafficking victims, and of those, 88% were in the care of social services or foster care when they ran.
